According to The Mineralogical Record, Vol.19, No.4 p229-238, a magnificent
specimen of Stibnite was displayed at the Mineral Society Meeting in London
in 1883, by Samuel Henderson, a London mineral dealer. And some Ichinokawa
Stibnite collected in 1883 or 4 refer to the Wada Society, Friends of
Nature. Then, Dr. Koreshiro Wada, a head of Japan Geological Survey made an official trip to Germany in 1884. He had huge Ichinokawa Stibnite collection at that time and some of them are now displayed at the museum in Ikuno mine, Hyogo prefecture, Japan. If 'Wada' word in 'Wada Society' indicated Mr. Koreshiro 'Wada', he might be the first people introduced Ichinokawa Stibnite to Europe and caused a sensation. But the relation between London mineral dealer and Wada is still uncertain. Now, Wadalite(type locality: Tadano, Koriyama, Japan) is named after Dr. Koreshiro Wada though this origin isn't mentioned in Dana 8th edition. |
